DON'T FORGET ABOUT THE WOMEN

We had pretty much chalk through the first weekend of the Men's NCAA Basketball Championship, so how about the women? The first round of the Women's NCAA Basketball Championship was fantastic. For the first time maybe ever the women's game is showing some serious parity. Tennessee went into the tournament as a #5 seed and lost to #12 Ball St. It was the first time ever Tennessee lost in the first round. As for Ball State, that was their first ever NCAA tournament game. Some are calling the upset, the greatest in women's basketball history. A #2 seed in the women's tournament has never gone down to a #15 seed. Last night, UTSA (University of Texas-San Antonio) took Baylor to overtime before getting knocked off. Minnesota, a #10 seed, is trying to become the Arizona men's team. Perhaps one of the last teams in, the Gophers upset #7 Notre Dame in South Bend. Other upsets included #12 seeded Gonzaga over #5 Xavier and #11 Michigan St. over #6 Texas. The best story of this tournament is a #7 seed, South Dakota St. In their first year of elligibility they put it on #10 seeded TCU 90-55. In a tournament that will probably be dominated by UCONN, go Jackrabbits. South Dakota St. has only two losses and could be a big time cinderella story.

-Team USA's run in WBC is over. Japan took it to the Americans last night setting up a Japan vs. Korea final. This tournament lost a lot of juice once the NCAA's started. In the future the WBC might want to think about rescheduling. This was a good tournament, it just got over shadowed by bigger things at the time.

-Pitcher Curt Schilling officially announced his retirement on his blog. Screw this guy, he should have been a media guy instead of a ball player given the way he continues to shoot of his mouth. I will always look at Schilling not for what he did on the field, but for how he would always shoot off his mouth during situations that had nothing to do with him. Schilling was a pretty good pitcher and a pretty bad human being. Thanks for finally going away Curt.

-What a surprise, Buffalo WR Terrell Owens was a now show during the team's first voluntary workout session. It's not that big of deal, however Owens did tell management he would be there. This will be the first issue of many between TO and Buffalo.

-Lance Armstrong crashed during a race in Spain today. Armstrong fractured his collerbone and should be OK. I'm rooting for this guy to come back and win the Tour De France. This news really kind of sucks.

-Wizzards Guard, Gilbert Arenas is finally going to put on a uniform. The injury plagued Arenas is expected to suit up for Washington on Saturday. It has been so long since Arenas has played, I forgot he was still in the NBA.

PICKS-After the weekend blitz, the overall blog record against the spread stands at 98-64-3.
